My name is Janine Blackburn and my husband and I have moved to the township of Port Waikato. Waikato, New Zealand.

 

 I am re-generating a blog I ran some years ago that described our life as a semi-alternative suburban Aucklander.  The idea was that I could work part-time, paint and save money by living simply where possible. After a period of near full-time employment the move has meant changes again New Zealand.  We are five years from retirement, a little more comfortable financially than we were but adjusting to a new lifestyle.

You'd think the term semi-alternative would mean a couple of amazing, multi-skilled builders, gardeners, cooks and general expert on all things handy.  Nope.  That was my Dad, not us, except maybe the cooking and rudimentary vegetable growing skills. Nevertheless we are doing our best and know when we need help.  This is my blog of how we are adapting to the semi-country.
